Everton tipped to swoop for Juventus’ Emre Can

Reports stemming from Italy today suggest that Premier League outfit Everton are eyeing a move for out-of-favour Juventus man Emre Can.

Bianconeri stint

26-year-old midfielder Can has been on the books of Juve since the summer of 2018.

The former Bayern Munich youth made the move to the Allianz Stadium on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.

Can went on to enjoy a solid debut campaign with the Italian champions, proving his worth over the second-half of the season as the German international began to settle into his new surroundings.

All told, Can managed 29 Serie A appearances, 20 of which came as starts.

The first-half of the new campaign, though, have proven a very different story.

Under new Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri, Can has found himself on the peripheries of the Old Lady’s squad.

Sarri evidently does not feel as though the technical, free-flowing brand of football which he is attempting to implement is one suited to the midfielder’s characteristics.

This has resulted in Can earning just 2 starts across all competitions thus far in 2019/20.

In addition, crucially, he was omitted from Juve’s Champions League group stage squad.

Premier League return?

As such, inevitable rumours that Can could soon be on the move once more have begun to circulate.

The likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich have both previously been named as potential destinations for the German.

As per the aforementioned updates stemming from Italy today, though, a new suitor have positioned themselves at the front of the queue for Can.

The outfit in question? Everton.

The Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Toffees are hot on the Juventus man’s heels, with a January switch to Goodison Park a possibility.

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be ‘insisting’ on Can’s signing, with the 26-year-old himself thought to be keen on a departure from Turin this month, as he seeks out regular game-time ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

One sticking point, though, could be Can’s Liverpool past.

The former Reds star has previously stated that he would never don the jersey of one of Liverpool’s rivals.
