Newcastle United are getting increasingly concerned over the future of Jamaal Lascelles, who is wanted by a number of clubs according to the Newcastle Chronicle.
The publication claims that not only are Everton keen on the highly rated defender, but that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have been taking a long, hard look at the player, with a view to making an approach for him come the summer.
It would be a huge blow for the Magpies to lose their skipper – yet the relationship between Rafa Benitez and the defender could well see him opt to remain at the club – however, a departure for Benitez may well also see several of Newcastle’s best players leave to boot.
Given how tight it is at the bottom of the table, most sides are looking over their shoulder, and injuries and suspensions are the last thing clubs need right now, and Everton boss Sam Allardyce has spoken about the injury to Mangala, and noted that it could be some time before the club see him back.
Given how he’s performed when fit, that might not be the worst news in the world for Everton fans, and there’s no denying Allardyce will be once again dipping into the transfer window this summer to try and build on what he already has.
“We are taking a second opinion on what we have to try and achieve. It’s a very difficult thing to assess how long it’s going to take.
“Mangala is out and Seamus Coleman looks like he will be struggling as well – but Leighton Baines has a chance of being in the squad for Watford.
“The competition [in the striker department] is fierce. Oumar’s position at Everton has probably never been as good as it is now.
“Now I prefer that the team gets changed by injuries or suspension. The rest of the lads have to be patient.”
