Everton set to bid for £50m rated Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles

Testing the waters

Everton are ready to seriously test Newcastle United and their desire to keep captain Jamaal Lascelles and are readying a bid for the player.

The Toffees have already completed deals for Richarlison and Lucas Digne and are looking to make a few more signings before the end of the window.

Central defence is one of the positions they are looking at and have been linked with a number of potential targets.

Yerry Mina looked to be the clubs number one target but a deal to sign him has been very difficult.

Manchester United and Lyon look to have jumped ahead of the Toffees in the queue to sign the Colombian, leaving them looking for other targets.

Marcos Rojo is one that has been linked, with reports in Argentina suggesting he could move to Goodison in a deal in excess of £30million.

Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson is also said to be an option but he looks to be closing in on a move to Burnley.

Now, there’s been another name thrown into the ring.

Newcastle conundrum

That player comes in the form of Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles.

The defender has been linked with a move away over the past 12 months but now Everton are set to test their resolve over the player.

With only a week left in the window, the club could use some cash to reinvest with Mike Ashley not backing Rafa Benitez in the transfer market.

With that in mind, Everton are set to bid £30million for Lascelles according to the Northern Echo.

Newcastle are said to rate him at £50million but these circumstances could change that.

Time will tell but Everton will likely need to go higher than £30million if they are to seal a deal.
