Can Everton convince Chelsea to sell?
Everton have opened talks with Chelsea over the permanent transfer of Kurt Zouma, after an impressive campaign at Goodison Park.
The Frenchman has been unable to nail down a permanent spot at Chelsea for a few seasons now.
Since joining the club from Saint-Étienne in 2014, Zouma has made 71 appearances for the Stamford Bridge side.
He was initially sent back to Saint-Étienne on loan after his signing, before returning to Chelsea.
In 2016, Zouma left Chelsea again on loan, this time joining Stoke City in hope of regular football.
Despite Stoke’s relegation from the Premier League that year, Zouma actually impressed during his 37 appearances.
That netted him a loan spell at Everton last season under Marco Silva, where he continued to show his potential.
Now, he and Chelsea have been left with a decision to make.
Everton open talks for Zouma
That’s because Everton have opened talks to sign Zouma permanently, according to the Telegraph.
They claim that ‘Everton hope that the two-window transfer ban at Chelsea will not prevent them from considering the sale of the central defender.’
They also explain that Zouma would not come cheap for Everton, though they do not cite any potential fee.
Chelsea would be unable to sign a replacement for Zouma if they did decide to sell, with the Blues already having a lack of options.
They currently have David Luiz, Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen as their first-team central defenders.
Though, they will have Ethan Ampadu and Fikayo Tomori as youth options.
With that in mind, Chelsea have a big decision to make regarding Zouma’s future.
