Everton must play at more than 100 per cent to beat Liverpool – Ancelotti

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has recently outlined what his side must do to beat Liverpool.

Everton vs Liverpool

Sunday’s marquee Premier league matchup takes place at 7pm UK time, as Everton play host to bitter rivals Liverpool in the final Merseyside derby of the campaign.

Everton headed into the weekend’s action down in 12th spot, six points adrift of 7th placed Wolves.

As such, Ancelotti and co. really need to put together a decent run of results over the course of their last nine league outings, if they hope to stand any chance of securing Europa League football.

Seeing off a Liverpool side just two wins away from their first-ever Premier League title may be easier said than done, though.

‘We have to play a perfect game’

The reverse fixture of Sunday’s clash saw Everton put to the sword by five goals to two back in December.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to 2010 to find the last time the Toffees got one over on their city rivals.

And one man seemingly well aware of the mammoth task facing Everton this weekend is Carlo Ancelotti.

Speaking ahead of the Merseyside derby, the Italian voiced the opinion that his side must play the perfect game on Sunday, adding that to beat Liverpool, they will have to ‘do more than play at 100 per cent’:

“I know how the Everton supporters look for this game, what they want to see from my team. We know really well what we have to do.

“We have to play a perfect game, showing character, sacrifice and personality.

“For sure to beat Liverpool you have to do more than play at 100 per cent.

“We have to consider this game as a great opportunity. It will be difficult of course because Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world, but we have to try.”
