According to reports across the English media today, Premier League outfit Everton are readying a January move for Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho.
Carvalho, a dominant holding midfield player, has developed a reputation as one of the most feared midfielders in the Portuguese top-flight over recent years, with his combination of size and technical ability making him a highly-coveted asset in the modern game.
The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with moves for the 40-time capped Portuguese international in the past, though a move to a top European club has, surprisingly, not come to fruition as of yet.
This past summer, all of Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus were touted as potential destinations for Carvalho, but the side that came closest to securing his signature were West Ham United.
It was reported on multiple occasions that the 25-year-old was close to sealing a move to the Olympic Stadium, though Sporting have since vehemently denied such stories, leading to an ugly public row between the Hammers and the Portuguese giants.
Sporting continue to insist that their midfield dynamo is absolutely not for sale, though another Premier League outfit, Ronald Koeman’s Everton, are ready to once again test the resolve of Jorge Jesus’ side in January.
As per reports in England, the Toffees are prepared to offer £31 million for Carvalho.
It remains unclear whether the player himself would be interested in a move to Goodison Park, though, with Everton having endured a nightmare start to the season, despite investing almost £150 million on their squad during the summer.
