Premier League outfit Everton have today become the latest side linked with a move for out-of-favour Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
Vermaelen, who of course lined out for Arsenal from 2009-2014, has endured a turbulent time since ending his spell at the Emirates, having made just 11 league appearances for Barcelona over the course of two seasons, along with managing just 9 Serie A showings on loan with AS Roma last season.
A combination of injuries and a lack of confidence have resulted in Vermaelen looking a shell of the impressive performer he once was in North London.
On the move
As a result, it is widely expected that the Belgian international will depart Catalunya over the coming weeks, with a whole host of Premier League clubs having already been linked with his signature.
All of Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion, Southampton and Watford are said to maintain an interest in the 31-year-old, with reports around Europe also suggesting that Torino and Anderlecht are keeping tabs on the stopper.
However, as per multiple sources in the English press, Ronald Koeman’s Everton are the new front-runners in the race for Vermaelen, with the Toffees ready to make the former Gunner the latest in a long string of high-profile arrivals at Goodison Park this summer.
Is it rumoured that Barcelona would be willing to part with Vermaelen for a fee in the region of 5 million Euro.
