Everton to go big this summer?
Everton are reportedly interested in signing Lille star Nicolas Pepe, who has also been linked with a move to Merseyside neighbours Liverpool.
The Ivorian winger was incredibly impressive last season in Ligue 1.
Pepe finished second top goalscorer in the competition with 22 goals, behind Kylian Mbappe with a stunning 33.
Pepe’s goals helped guide Lille to a second-place finish and, as a result, the player has attracted some serious interest in the transfer window.
The Ivorian has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, and it was even suggested by Lille’s president that the Reds had been in touch with Pepe.
However, Liverpool supposedly denied having any interest in Pepe.
Now, it’s Merseyside rivals Everton who are being linked with a move for the 24-year-old.
Everton ‘express’ interest in signing Pepe
According to Jason Burt of the Telegraph, Everton are interested in signing Nicolas Pepe.
It’s said that ‘Everton have expressed an interest in signing Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.’
The reports goes on to explain that Pepe ‘would cost a club-record fee of around 65million euros (£58.5m) and it remains to be seen whether Everton will bid that high’.
While a move at that price certainly seems unlikely for Everton, there are other options.
The same report claims that Barcelona’s Malcom, Ajax’s David Neres and Lyon’s Bertrand Traore are all considered alternative options to Pepe.
Any of those four would represent marquee signings for Everton, and could be key in reaching the top-six next season.
Finally, Burt’s report claims that Everton will remain patient over Kurt Zouma.
The Toffees reportedly want to sign the Frenchman permanently, but must first allow Frank Lampard time to assess his Chelsea squad.
