Everton handed academy transfer ban and £500,000 fine

Transfer ban to cause havoc

Everton have been handed an academy transfer ban and fined £500,000 after being found guilty of breaching Premier League tapping up rules.

The Toffees have a pretty good academy and have produced some fantastic players of the years.

Wayne Rooney is the most notable of them but there have been several players who have made the first team.

Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all come through some stage of Everton’s academy.

Though, Everton will not be able to repeat the success they have had with players like Mason Holgate and Calvert-Lewin for another two years.

That is because the club have been banned from signing players between the age of 10 and 18 and fined £500,000.

Premier League dish out big punishment

This comes following an allegation against Everton that they tapped up a Cardiff City schoolboy in 2016.

The allegations first came to light in September when the Telegraph confirmed an investigation was underway in relation to a youngster who now plays at Manchester United.

The initial reports claimed the child “was offered a place at a school associated with Everton, as well as ‘full costs paid for a rented house and a family allowance cash payment of £600 per month.'”

Now, following investigation, and an internal inquest, their punishment has been confirmed.

As reported by Paul Joyce, Everton ‘immediately admitted the allegations’ and launched their own inquest.

That lead to details that a similar approach was taken to sign six other boys.

In a statement, Everton apologised to the Premier League and claimed the actions were ‘not in line with our values and not acceptable to Everton’.
