Everton face stiff competition to sign Andre Gomes this summer

Will Andre Gomes remain at Goodison Park?

Everton will reportedly face stiff competition to sign Andre Gomes on a permanent deal when his loan expires at the end of the season.

Gomes has been somewhat of a revelation at Everton this campaign.

The midfielder joined on loan from Spanish giants Barcelona last summer after the Toffees concluded permanent moves for both Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina.

After recovering from an early injury, Gomes soon grew into the player that Everton have needed in midfield for years.

Controlling the midfield, Gomes formed an effective partnership with Idrissa Gueye and quickly became a pivotal part of Marco Silva’s side and a fan favourite.

However, Gomes is only on loan at Everton and now it’s time to get down to business and sign him permanently.

However, that may be easier said than done.

Can Everton get a deal done in time?

That is because, according to the Liverpool Echo, Everton will face some pretty stiff competition for Gomes this summer.

The Toffees are not the only club to have been impressed by his performances in the Premier League.

Fellow top-flight side Tottenham have recently been linked with a move for Gomes and the Echo acknowledges their interest.

However, they add two other names to the fray.

They claim that Serie A giants Inter Milan and Roma ‘are understood to be among those who are keeping tabs on Gomes.’

It isn’t all bad news, though.

That is because, according to the Echo, ‘Everton are confident Gomes prefers to remain at Goodison, but offers are expected to come in from around Europe, with the midfielder having proven himself in the Premier League this season.’

While the interest of other clubs will no doubt make negotiations more difficult, Gomes’ desire to remain at Everton could swing a deal in their favour.
