Everton dealt double injury blow ahead of Liverpool showdown

Everton boss Frank Lampard has confirmed a pair of absentees for the club's upcoming trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.

The latest edition of the Merseyside Derby, of course, is set to play out in just shy of 48 hours' time.

Amid the club's ongoing battle against relegation to the Championship, the Toffees will make the daunting trip to the red half of the city, for a showdown with Jurgen Klopp's title-chasing Liverpool.

In turn, it goes without saying that the aforementioned Frank Lampard, in the lead-up to the clash, was no doubt hopeful of having as many members of his squad as possible fit and available to feature from the off on Sunday.

Speaking in a press conference earlier today, Everton's boss was therefore inevitably asked for a fitness update on his ranks.

Unfortunately, though, Lampard went on to reveal that a pair of Blues stars - in the form of Donny van de Beek and Andre Gomes - have been ruled out of proceedings owing to respective injury concerns:

"Donny van de Beek won't be available. He's got a small groin injury. Andre Gomes is the same."

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has too been ruled out of the derby, whilst stopper Yerry Mina faces a late test amid his ongoing efforts to recover full fitness on the back of a spell on the sidelines:

"It's a decision I have to make closer to the game. We have to understand we've got six more games after this."

Battle for survival heating up

Everton, of course, will make the trip to Anfield in the knowledge that every result over the final weeks of the campaign is set to prove crucial to the club's hopes of staving off what would be a shock relegation from the top tier of English football.

As things stand, the Toffees sit in 17th, but just one point clear of Burnley on the back of the Clarets' 2-0 downing of Southampton during the week.

Lampard's troops do boast a game in hand, but, ahead of a testing run-in featuring meetings with the likes of Chelsea, Leicester and Arsenal, Everton will soon need to start stringing together a positive run of results.
