Everton dealt Digne injury blow vs Man United/why Sigurdsson & Sidibe missed out

Man United vs Everton

Manchester United and Everton went head-to-head on Sunday afternoon.

The Toffees headed into the tie sat 15th in the Premier League, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

But Everton would pick up an impressive 3-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend in what was Duncan Ferguson’s first game as caretaker boss.

And should Everton beat United on Sunday, they could move as high as 13th in the league.

As for Man United, they kicked off at Old Trafford 6th in the English top-flight, but a win over Everton would guarantee them a move back up to 5th.

Why Sigurdsson & Sidibe missed out

Everton would release their matchday squad an hour before kick-off on Sunday.

And there were a few noticeable omissions from the starting eleven and bench.

Both Djibril Sidibe and Gylfi Sigurdsson were completely omitted from the 18, which seemed somewhat strange given both have been regular features for Everton this season.

However, caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson would then provide an explanation for the pair’s respective absences.

Ferguson confirmed that both Sidibe and Sigurdsson are suffering from a sickness bug.

Digne injured

Everton were then dealt another blow during the first-half at Old Trafford, as Lucas Digne limped off with 25 minutes on the clock.
