Everton boss provides updates on James Rodriguez and Andre Gomes ahead of Brighton trip

Everton boss provides updates on James Rodriguez and Andre Gomes ahead of Brighton trip

Points dropped

Everton’s hopes of European qualification suffered a blow last night when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Crystal Palace.

The Toffees now sit in 8th place in the Premier League, two points off Liverpool and Tottenham who are directly above them, and five points off West Ham who sit in 4th.

Carlo Ancelotti was able to welcome back Columbian James Rodriguez last night, after he had missed the previous 4 matches through injury. His return to the first team saw him score his 6th goal of the season when he converted Seamus Coleman’s pull back to give his side the lead.

He was withdrawn after 78 minutes, with his team still leading and Ancelotti discussed the reason for bringing him off in his post-match interview.

“I think James gave a fantastic effort. It was long time he was not playing. He played a fantastic match, he scored a goal and helped the team. “

“At the end, he didn’t have a lot of energy and to avoid a problem I took him out.”

With the substitution being made in order to protect Rodriguez, it seems as though he should be available for their next game.

Andre Gomes also left proceedings early last night after he pulled up after 30 mins and was replaced.

On the injury Ancelotti said;

Andre Gomes has a hamstring injury and we will have to check in the next few days. “

“I don’t know how long he will be out. It doesn’t seem like a serious problem, it seems a little problem, but we have to check with a scan.”

Everton will be hoping both men are available for the final push towards the European places.
