Everton & River Plate’s Santiago Sosa
According to leading Argentine news outlet Ole, Everton have reached an agreement with River Plate to sign 20-year-old Santiago Sosa.
Ole report that Everton are willing to pay River Plate 15 million euros for Sosa.
To be clear, Ole say that Sosa has a 15 million euro release clause in his current contract.

So will Santiago Sosa join Everton?
That remains unclear.
Before the deal can go through, Everton need to secure a work permit for Sosa.
That may not be as easy as it seems, however, as the midfielder has only made five appearances for River Plate.
Who is Santiago Sosa?
Santiago Sosa is a defensive midfielder, who is currently playing for Argentina at the U20 World Cup.
Sosa has already played three times for Argentina in the competition in Poland, registering one assist.
TyC Sports have previously noted that Sosa is keen to model his game on Germany’s Toni Kroos.
However, it seems obvious right now that Sosa isn’t anywhere close to Kroos’ level.
Indeed, the assumption is that a switch from River Plate to Everton would be a major step up for Sosa.
“Santiago Sosa, one of River Plate’s jewels, is to leave Núñez for England. The player’s representative will travel next week to Europe to close an agreement with Everton, who would pay a figure close to 15 million dollars” https://t.co/FMZOt9Ucqv

Marcel Brands has revealed Everton’s transfer strategy
While Santiago Sosa’s transfer to Everton remains in the balance, it’s worth considering how the potential deal fits into Everton’s wider recruitment strategy.
At the start of April, Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands confirmed how Everton plan to attack the transfer market moving forward.
Brands has made it clear that Everton plan to target young players.
Brands: “All the players we brought into the club in the summer we under 25. We don’t want to invest big money in older players.”
