Against the clock
Everton have reportedly agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign French defender Kurt Zouma on loan for the season with just under an hour left in the window.
The Toffees have been on the lookout for central defenders and Yerry Mina is the one that they have been reportedly chasing all summer.
That is because they have an ageing Phil Jagielka in the squad and have already seen Welshman Ashley Williams join Stoke City.
That leaves Michael Keane, Jagielka and youngster Mason Holgate as the only options in central defence.
Now, one of those links, Kurt Zouma, could be on his way to Goodison Park in a last minute deal on deadline day.
That is because L’Equipe, cited by Get French football, are reporting just over an hour before the transfer window closes that Everton have agreed a loan move with Chelsea for Kurt Zouma.
It was reported this week that the Toffees and Manchester United were set to go head to head for the player but Chelsea did not want to improve a direct rival in United.
Everton, however, would not be a direct rival for Chelsea next season and will give Zouma plenty of time on the pitch.
The big question is whether a deal can be done in time.
L’Equipe do state that it is now a race against time to get a deal done and a transfer sheet submitted by 5pm if they are to get extra time following the deadline.
