Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has told his players what they must do to impress him.

Ten Hag took charge of United’s pre-season a few weeks back and managed his first game for his new club on Tuesday vs Liverpool.

Manchester United dominated the tie and came away with a staggering 4-0 win over their arch-rivals.

The Red Devils are now set to face off with Melbourne Victory on Friday morning at 11:05 UK time.

The tie is expected to produce a very easy win for Manchester United, but will be another good chance for Ten Hag to learn more about his current crop of players.

And, in a press conference on Thursday ahead of the game, Ten Hag outlined what expects of his players and what they need to do to impress him:

"From every area of the team, I want productivity,” he said. “That's the most important thing, that players take the initiative on and off the ball, in offence and defence.”

One man not with the United squad on Friday is Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese has missed all of Manchester United’s pre-season tour to date and is seemingly looking to force his way out of the club.

The 37-year-old has made it known to the club’s hierarchy that he does not want to spend a season outside of the Champions League at this stage of his career and has asked to be allowed to leave this summer, according to reports.

However, the veteran forward is having a hard time finding a new club, with PSG and Chelsea both believed to have snubbed a potential transfer in the last few weeks.
