Undoubtedly enjoying his most successful spell during his tenure in North London, Tottenham’s Erik Lamela has been rewarded for his bright start to the new season.
It is being reported by TyC Sports that the 26-year-old is set to be recalled to Argentina’s next squad.
On the 16th of November, Lionel Scaloni’s side will face Mexico in an international friendly held in Cordoba.
Lamela recalled by Argentina
For Lamela, the former Roma man has had to wait patiently for the chance to return to international football.
Despite being included in Argentina’s Copa America squad in 2016, he has not featured since September of that year.
Called up by former boss Edgardo Bauza for their South American Qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay, Lamela was an unused substitute.
However, two years on, it appears Tottenham’s #11 is going to be given another opportunity by La Albiceleste.
With Lionel Messi taking an indefinite break from international football following Argentina’s poor World Cup, many players like Lamela will see this as a golden opportunity.
The two-time World Cup winners are now coming off the back of a 1-0 loss to Brazil last month.
Lamela’s impressive start to the season
Playing in a more central role in Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side this season, Lamela appears to be finally finding his feet in North London.
Although they might not have spent a penny over the summer, the forward has the air of a new arrival.
Scoring the winning goal in Tottenham’s 1-0 Premier League win over West Ham last week, the 26-year-old is now Spurs’ second-leading goalscorer this season.
Lamela has now been directly involved in 10 goals in his last 10 appearances for Tottenham.
More impressive he has now been involved in a Spurs goal just over every 40 minutes this season.
The 23-cap Argentina international has also already beaten his return last year.
Next up for Lamela and Tottenham, the Lilywhites will travel to Wolves on the weekend.
Then, Spurs will host Inter Milan in a match that is already being tipped as their most important so far.
In their opening three Champions League games, they are yet to record a win.
