Eric Dier makes Nuno Espirito Santo plan claim following Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa

Eric Dier makes Nuno Espirito Santo plan claim following Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa

Tottenham return to winning ways

Tottenham played host to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs headed into the game looking to bounce back from a three-game losing streak in the Premier League which has seen them concede nine goals and score just once.

And, when all was said and done at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this is exactly what happened.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg fired Tottenham into the lead after 27 minutes:

Ollie Watkins then pulled one back after 67 minutes. But a Matt Targett own goal four minutes later ensured Tottenham came away with a crucial three points.

Eric Dier on Nuno

Before Sunday’s win, it was claimed that Spurs were already looking at replacements for Nuno and that some Tottenham players are not impressed with Nuno’s attitude, personality or by the type of football they are being asked to play.

However, Eric Dier has now come out and stated that Tottenham players 100 per cent believe in Nuno’s plan:

“100 per cent we believe [in the manager’s plan]. We have to keep calm. We had a tough couple of weeks under difficult circumstances. We were missing a lot of players, we went to Crystal Palace – injuries, sending offs, we really lost our balance there – and then we had two disappointing results.

“The Chelsea result did not reflect the game at all, we performed really well, especially in the first half and then the Arsenal game we were very disappointing. It’s early days, I think the performance yesterday was the best of the season and that shows a real reaction from the players. The players needed to show that reaction.

“For me it doesn’t really matter [about the circumstances], as players we have to perform and there are some levels you can’t drop below and we definitely did last weekend and that has noting to do with the manager.”
