Enzo Zidane joins Alaves from Real Madrid

By Conor Laird

Real Madrid midfielder Enzo Zidane Fernandez, the son of Blancos manager Zinedine, has today officially departed the club for fellow La Liga side Alaves.

Talented Frenchman

The 22-year-old, who can play on the right, left or in the centre of an attacking midfield role, has been on the books of Real Madrid since joining the club as a youngster in 2004.

He has struggled to make the grade at the Bernabeu to this point in his career, though, spending most of his time with the club’s Castilla side in the Spanish second division.

Though he did not manage to make a La Liga appearance for the Champions League holders, the highlight of Zidane’s career to date no doubt came during a Copa Del Rey tie versus Cultural Leonesa in November of last year.

The technically-gifted youngster was introduced by father Zinedine at half-time of the matchup, before going on to score with his first shot ever for the club’s first team.

On the move

In a move that should see Enzo receive the first-team playing time he so desperately needs to develop, the former French youth international has put pen to paper on a three-year contract (according to Marca) with last season’s Copa Del Rey finalists Deportivo Alaves, generally known simply as Alaves.

Real have seemingly not given up hope of introducing the midfielder into their first-team at some stage in the future, though, with a buyback option having also been included in the deal.
