Gareth Southgate

England fans fuming over one key World Cup squad omission

When the England squad was officially announced, Gareth Southgate must have known he wouldn’t be able to please everyone, however, there were a couple of shock names that got everyone talking – and one omission that had people fuming.

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey missed out, and while his attitude was something many people pointed to as a concern, he’s played well for Newcastle in the last six months and kept his head down without many behavioural issues or problems.

Which is why most people were annoyed the player would be missing out, along with Jack Wilshere, given the two are creative players and often give something in the middle of the park and the final third other players do not.

Given Fabian Delph and Ashley Young were in the squad with Jake Livermore and Lewis Cook on standby for the midfield – and Shelvey was once again missing off that list, people were even more irate and it became one of the biggest talking points on social media after the list was released.
