Emiliano Martinez ‘close to signing new contract’ at Arsenal

A fresh update concerning the future of Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has emerged online today.

Martinez linked with move away from Arsenal

Martinez, of course, has stood as one of Arsenal’s standout stars for the last few months, since stepping up to fill the boots of the previously injured Bernd Leno.

The Argentine shone during the Gunners’ season run-in in 2019/20, playing a key role in the club’s latest FA Cup triumph earlier this month.

Martinez also put on a superb display on Saturday, as Arsenal saw off Liverpool to secure the Community Shield.

However, the 27-year-old’s long-term future has nevertheless been called into doubt of late.

Martinez’s recent form has proved that he is more than capable of cutting his teeth in the Premier League, with the player himself having stated that he will only remain in north London if assured of more regular playing time.

However, recent reports had suggested that Mikel Arteta was not willing to make such a promise, amid claims that the Gunners were ready to cash in on Martinez:

Martinez staying put

It was even claimed on Saturday that Aston Villa were preparing an offer for the shot-stopper.

However, the latest update surrounding Martinez’s future suggests that he will in fact not be departing the Emirates anytime soon.

According to the Telegraph:

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is close to signing a new contract at the Emirates Stadium despite interest from Premier League rivals in offering a No.1 role.

It is added that the club want Martinez to stay put, with the Argentine expected to be handed plenty of game time next season.
