Emile Smith Rowe’s reaction to Aston Villa interest could be bad news for Arsenal

Smith Rowe’s Arsenal stint

Emile Smith Rowe was one of the few bright sparks for Arsenal in a less than impressive 2020/21 campaign.

The 20-year-old finally began to earn regular minutes for Arsenal’s first-team at the back end of 2020, and has since firmly cemented himself as a crucial cog in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

The England youth international offers some much-needed creativity to the Gunners, and has provided seven assists and seven goals in 37 outings across all competitions during the season.

Such fine form, despite it only coming during half a season, has seemingly attracted interest from another Premier League side.

Smith Rowe blown away by Aston Villa interest

That team is Aston Villa, with Dean Smith and co. understood to have already made two bids for the youngster – the latest of which was made at the back end of June:

Reports of a 3rd bid are now beginning to mount this week. And whilst Arsenal may have no interest in parting with their only creative midfielder, it appears that Smith Rowe could be somewhat interested in Villa.

A recent report from the Birmingham Mail claims that Villa sporting director Johan Lange has been encouraged after talks with the Arsenal star’s representatives, with Smith Rowe himself said to be blown away by Aston Villa’s interest in him:

As for Villa’s stance, Lange has been encouraged after talks with Smith Rowe’s representatives with the player said to be ‘blown away’ by Villa’s interest in him. Ultimately, it’ll be Smith Rowe’s decision with the England under-21 star set for face-to-face talks with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in the coming days.

Whilst this obviously does not confirm that Smith Rowe wants to join Villa, it does appear as though his stance on a move is not as clear as Arsenal may have been hoping, with ESR seemingly not fully closed off to the idea of swapping the Emirates for Villa Park.
