Unai Emery is keen for Arsenal to finalise a deal with Nacho Monreal over a new contract.
Monreal’s current deal is due to expire next summer and he is able to start negotiating a free transfer in January with foreign clubs.
Emery is “very happy” with the 32-year-old’s level of performance and admitted he is a key player for the Gunners.
Emery on Monreal: “We need to find a new contract with him”
New manager Unai Emery is hoping for Nacho Monreal to sign a new contract.
The defender is one of five players who are out of contract with Arsenal next summer.
Emery insists he does not want to lose Monreal and has urged the club to sort out a new deal.
“First, I knew Nacho Monreal in Spain when he was playing in Osasuna and at Malaga.
“After six years here, I came here and I know him as a new Nacho Monreal.
“After two weeks, after two months and now, I can say that I am very happy with him because he is 32-years-old but I think physically, with his performances with us in matches, he is playing with a very good level.
“I think we need to find a new contract with him to stay with the Arsenal team.”
Monreal: “At the moment we are talking with the club”
The player has confirmed that he is in contact with Arsenal over a new contract.
“At the moment we are talking with the club.
“I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal.
“I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them.
“We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that.
“I am happy here. That is the most important thing.”
