Embarrassing Romelu Lukaku stat surfaces during Chelsea's clash with Crystal Palace

A frankly staggering statistic, highlighting the current struggles of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, has surfaced online on Saturday afternoon.

The stat in question comes on the back of Belgian international Lukaku's efforts across the opening 45 minutes of the Blues' Premier League showdown with capital rivals Crystal Palace.

As revealed by statisticians Opta, bizarrely, Chelsea's big-money summer addition managed to touch the ball on a grand total of 2 (yes, TWO) occasion over the entirety of the opening half of play.

Not only that, but one such touch came upon 'Big Rom' getting proceedings underway in south London, from kick-off.

Zaha and co. come close

As the action inches beyond the hour mark on Saturday, though, Chelsea's concerns will no doubt stem far beyond the struggles of Thomas Tuchel's troops to get Lukaku involved.

This comes with the Pensioners, fresh off the back of sealing glory at the Club World Cup, somewhat on the back foot against a game Palace outfit led by former Arsenal standout Patrick Vieira.

The scoreline, as things stand, remains locked at 0-0, but the Eagles are growing increasingly into things, with only wastefulness on the part of the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise having saved the blushes of an under-performing Chelsea outfit.
