After Chelsea’ 3-0 win over Southampton on Sunday, Eden Hazard has been singing the praises of his Chelsea team-mate, Ross Barkley.
‘If you give Ross the freedom to play and the confidence on the pitch, he can be one of the best in the world’
Speaking after Barkley’s great display vs Southampton, Hazard stated:
“He played a fantastic game and it is not just because he scored a goal or that he made an assist. You can see on the pitch that he is very strong.
“He had some bad moments in the last year or two years with injury. But I think he can reach a fantastic level because he is a fantastic player.
“I remember watching him at Everton. He is still young so I think he is a good player for the future with Chelsea.
“If you give Ross the freedom to play and the confidence on the pitch, he can be one of the best in the world in midfield. He is strong, he is powerful, he can dribble. He is clever, he can shoot, he can score and he can make assists.
“If he has players around him to help him to play, he can be one of the best.”
Barkley’s time at Chelsea
Barkley would join Chelsea in January of 2018 for a fee of around £15 million.
However, Barkley’s first six months at Chelsea did not go well.
The 24-year-old was still nursing some injury problems which he had picked up in the first half of the 2017/18 season with Everton.
So, when Barkley arrived at Chelsea, his game time and fitness was very limited.
In fact, Barkley would make just two Premier League appearances for Chelsea last season, both of which Chelsea lost.
Under Maurizio Sarri, however, Barkley has been given a new lease of life.
The midfielder has already made seven league appearances for Chelsea this season and vs Southampton he would bag a goal and an assist.
