Eden Hazard reveals he put on five kilos before joining Real Madrid

Hazard had to play catch up

Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has admitted that he arrived at Real Madrid having put on five kilos during his summer holidays.

Hazard’s future was one of the big stories of the summer transfer window.

After deciding against a new contract at Chelsea, the Blues cashed in on Hazard, selling him to Real Madrid for a fee that could reportedly exceed £150 million.

However, upon his arrival in pre-season, people started to notice something about Hazard’s fitness.

The Belgian looked out of shape, and it was reported that he arrived seven kilograms overweight.

Now, Hazard has opened up on the details about his weight when he arrived for pre-season at Real Madrid.

‘I’m not going to hide it, but when I’m on vacation, I’m on vacation’

Speaking ahead of the clash with Real Sociedad, Hazard revealed that he did arrive for pre-season having put on five kilos.

‘It’s true,’ he explained to L’Equipe, as cited by the Mail.

‘I’m not going to hide it, but when I’m on vacation, I’m on vacation.

‘I had put on five kilos, I’m the type to put on quickly and lose so quickly if I’m careful.

‘When I was 18, in Lille, I was 72 or 73 kg. Muscle mass was 75 kg, on a bad day, 77 kg. I was 80 kg this summer, I lost it in 10 days.’

Hazard also admitted that it wasn’t easy at first with Madrid.

The Belgian struggled to get going, but now claims he’s felt better for a month.

‘The first two months, in what I was proposing, it was not enough,’ he continued.

‘I thought, I can do better, I’ve felt better for a month now. I dribble, I accelerate and I try to make others play well.’
