Eden Hazard has claimed Chelsea don’t need to land a forward this winter, despite the club apparently being linked with anyone and everyone.
Their hunt for a striker has led to some unlikely players, with everyone from Peter Crouch to Ashley Barnes being mentioned, and it seems as though the Blues could well bring in a big forward man this winter – something Hazard thinks is unnecessary.
He lavished praise on the current forwards, and claimed that Chelsea could even use him as a front man.
Standard Sport reported he said: “I think we have two very good strikers in Alvaro and Michy. If they are not ready to play I can play striker, so I don’t think we need [another one].
“Football is simple – keep the ball on the ground and try [to play] like we did. Because we are missing chances people are saying we need another striker, but if we are scoring goals, we are the best attack in the League and no-one can say we need a striker.
“It depends on the form of the team and I think we’re happy with the team we have.
“Who is the best team this year? Manchester City. The strikers, (Gabriel) Jesus and (Sergio) Aguero, are not big.
“It’s simple. It depends how you want to play. If you want to play with long balls you need a target man, if you want to keep the ball on the floor you need a small guy. It depends how you want to play.”
Chelsea might be in the market for a forward, but Real Madrid are apparently in the market for Eden Hazard, and while the player’s father has talked up the chances of a move – even claiming that Hazard will turn down a new deal at Chelsea to sign for the La Liga side – but Hazard himself claimed this was not true.
In fact, he said a stay at Chelsea is on the cards, and not only will he pen a new deal, but he’ll also encourage Thibaut Courtois to sign a contract extension with the club to boot.
