Eden Hazard reveals Chelsea’s tactical problems after Man City

Man City beat Chelsea 1-0

How will the season pan out for Chelsea?

Fresh from two successive defeats to Manchesters United and City, Chelsea have a major task in trying to finish in the top four.

The safe bet is that Chelsea won’t be in the Champions League next season.

Against Man City, Chelsea’s negative tactics were on full view.

Antonio Conte tried to stifle the Sky Blues, while the Pensioners had to response after Bernardo Silva scored 33 seconds in to the second half.

What Eden Hazard said after Man City

Conte opted to play Eden Hazard as a false nine against City.

That had worked well in recent weeks, as the Blues held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League last-16 first-leg.

But against City the tactic didn’t work at all. And Hazard talked about Chelsea’s struggles at the Etihad to HLN:

When you leave the pitch you have the impression that you’ve ran [a lot], but that you haven’t played a game of football. That’s a pity.

We could have played on for three hours, and I [still] wouldn’t touch a ball.

It went a bit better only at the end: in the last 10-15 minutes we had more possession. But we should have tried to do that all game.

I tried to jump [for long balls] but against [Nicolas] Otamendi and [Aymeric] Laporte it is not easy.

It was difficult. Against Barcelona we had at least a few chances. In that game we could have scored. Today we didn’t create any. It was complicated.

Certainly to find an answer to their pressing. Once we had the ball, we were immediately surrounded by three or four players.

We have also wasted some simple passes. We haven’t played a good game. We are going to work hard to perform better next week.
