Eden Hazard: ‘Belgium deserved to lose’
After the match, Chelsea star Eden Hazard was honest and open about Belgium’s collapse against the Swiss.
Speaking the local media, Hazard admitted Belgium deserved to lose because their defending was appalling:
It seemed like we would win easily, but we lost sight of the basics.
We did not defend as a team, we let in five goals and we deserved to lose today.
We can not explain everything in football. Switzerland suddenly had the momentum, we lost the duels, we did not put any pressure anymore.
The whole team had to ask questions.
Thibaut Courtois blames Nacer Chadli
Former Chelsea goalie Thibaut Courtois offered a different take on the Swiss defeat.
Now with Real Madrid, Courtois singled out Nacer Chadli for blame for helped Switzerland in their comeback.
Chadli, now with Monaco, handed the Swiss their penalty for a poor tackle from behind on Kevin Mbabu in the Belgium box.
After the game Courtois had this to say about that penalty:
We relaxed, we were too relaxed. We left them too many spaces.
Switzerland pushed and we conceded a stupid penalty.
