Duncan Ferguson speaks out on possibility of becoming permanent Everton manager

Duncan Ferguson made an immediate impression while managing Everton

Everton are set to take on Aston Villa in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.

Ahead of the game, Duncan Ferguson held the club’s pre-match press conference on Friday.

Ferguson is currently the Toffees’ caretaker manager following the dismissal of Rafa Benitez last weekend, after a 2-1 loss to Norwich.

And, when speaking to the press this afternoon, the former Blues star was asked about the possibility of becoming Everton’s permanent manager. He went on to reply:

“I think maybe down the line, one day I always dream about it. Of course I’ve not quite got that experience. The club will go through a process identifying a new manager and then bring him in.

“You never know in football do you? What happens down the line will be down to the club. We’re always looking for the best managers in the world.”

Ferguson is currently the favourite to take the job on a permanent basis, priced at 7/4 with Betfair.

Everton vs Aston Villa

Elsewhere in his press conference, the caretaker tactician also spoke about the Villa game.

Everton have won just one of their last 13 Premier League matches. This has seen the Merseysiders slip down to 16th in the Premier League, and to within six points of the relegation zone.

Ferguson, though, does not believe that his side are truly in a fight to stay up at present: “I don’t see it quite like that.

But if we don’t improve quickly, things might not be too good for us.”

As for the Villa game, when quizzed on team selection, Ferguson hinted that changes are in store this weekend:

“If you’re going on a losing run we’ve been on, you’ve got to make changes.”
