Double blow for Wolves as Pedro Neto ruled out for season/Ruben Neves to miss upcoming fixtures

Double blow for Wolves as Pedro Neto ruled out for season/Ruben Neves to miss upcoming fixtures

Wolverhampton Wanderers have this evening been dealt a pair of concerning blows on the personnel front.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were of course back in action this past weekend, in a meeting with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Wolves headed into proceedings in desperate search of a bounce-back win, amid a dismal spell of form which had seen them dragged closer and closer to the relegation scrap.

And, when all was said and done in the capital, bounce back is precisely what the Molineux outfit managed.

A solitary goal, netted by Adama Traore deep into injury-time, eventually proved enough to see the visitors return to the West Midlands with a much needed 3 points under their belts.

Neto to sit out season

Wolves’ first win in six, however, came at a cost.

Just past the half-hour mark at Craven Cottage, Pedro Neto was forced off, after going to ground with a knee injury.

The club’s supporters, in turn, had since faced an anxious wait for an update on their in-form wide-man, who has proven one of the few bright sparks amid an altogether underwhelming campaign at Molineux.

And such an update has since been forthcoming on Monday evening. The news, however, is far from positive.

As confirmed in a statement across the club’s social media platforms, Neto is set to sit out the remainder of the campaign (and likely beyond), after picking up what is described as a ‘significant’ knee cap injury.

The Portuguese international is therefore set to go under the knife, and looks almost certain to miss this summer’s European Championships:

Pedro Neto suffered a significant injury to his patella (knee cap) during the match against Fulham and, following a review with a knee specialist in London at the weekend, surgery has been planned for later this week. Unfortunately, he is not expected to return to play until next season.

Elsewhere, Wolves have also confirmed that Neto’s fellow countryman, Ruben Neves, has tested positive for Covid-19.
