Donny Van De Beek set to seek out talks with Manchester United over his future at the club

Donny Van De Beek set to seek out talks with Manchester United over his future at the club

Lack of game time

Donny van de Beek hasn’t enjoyed the best of first seasons at Manchester United since joining last summer for £35 million. He was the club’s only major signing, but has failed to establish himself in the first team and has only made two starts in the Premier League.

The Daily Star have reported today that he is set to hold talks with Ed Woodward and may see his future away from the club due to a lack of first team action.

Much was expected of the Dutchman after lighting up the Champions League with Ajax as they marched to the semi finals in the 18/19 competition.

He has started 11 games in all competitions, with a further 15 appearances from the bench and seems to vary much be on the periphery of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans. He is clearly behind Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, James McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic as a choice to play in the centre of midfield.

With Euro 2020 incoming, the lack of game time may affect his position with the Dutch national team, something he will be keen to avoid.

He has been injured for the last 3 weeks, but is due to return to action imminently. With United in action against AC Milan in the Europa League this week and an FA Cup Quarter Final with Leicester at the weekend he will be hopeful of being included and working his way into the first team.

Stars to return

Donny van de Beek isn’t the only United player set for a return to first team action in the coming weeks.

Speaking in his post match conference after their 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer updated on a number of his players who are set to return.

“We hope to have Edinson (Cavani) and Anthony (Martial) available, maybe Paul (Pogba) and David (De Gea) is finished with quarantine. Not bad players!”
