Dimitri Payet is still one of West Ham’s most creative players

Marseille 5 – RB Leipzig 2

French side Marseille progressed through to the Europa League semifinals on Thursday night after a stunning 5-2 win over RB Leipzig.

Leipzig arrived at the Stade Veladrome with a 1-0 lead from the first leg. And the Germans got off to a flying start in France as Bruma scored after two minutes.

But, in the crazy opening 10 minute spell, OM took the lead. A sixth minute Stefan Ilsanke own goal levelled the scores, before Bouna Sarr bagged a second.

Florian Thauvin scored OM’s third in the 38th minute as OM went into the break ahead in the tie.

The craziness continued in the second period.

Jean-Kevin Augustin levelled for Leipzig in the 55th, but Dimitri Payet found the target on the hour. Hiroki Sakai scored Marseille’s fifth in injury time.

Dimitri Payet & West Ham

An incredible stat involving Dimitri Payet and West Ham emerged in the Leipzig game.

Payet left West Ham under a cloud in January 2017.

He left less than 12 months after signing a new five-and-a-half year deal with the club. And Payet has since been rathe rude about the Hammers in interviews.

Yet, over the last two seasons, Payet is still West Ham’s second most creative player.

West Ham vs Stoke City

The relegation six-pointers keep coming for West Ham.

The Hammers are back in Premier League action on Monday night at the London Stadium.

They take on Stoke City, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Tottenham last weekend.

Stoke are second bottom of the Premier League. The Potters have 27 points from 33 games, while they’ve lost their last four matches in a row.

As for the Irons, they are on the up. The 3-0 win over Southampton was boosted by a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

On 34 points, one more win for West Ham could be enough to secure their top flight status.
