As per a report from reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, West Ham United midfielder Edimilson Fernandes is on the verge of a move to Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Fernandes, a versatile 22-year-old attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing or in a deeper role, has been on the books of West Ham since 2016, after making the move to London from Swiss club Sion as a highly-regarded youngster.
And the 4-time capped Switzerland international has since gone on to play a bit-part role for the Hammers, having appeared in an impressive 28 Premier League fixtures during his debut campaign in the English capital (8 starts) but just 14 more last season (though he did miss lengthy periods through injury).
On the move
As such, with all of Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko having made their way to the London Stadium this summer, Fernandes’ opportunities under new manager Manuel Pellegrini were expected to be severely limited heading into the new campaign.
The talented midfielder has subsequently been heavily touted as a possible Hammers’ departure before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month (English clubs can still sell but not buy players), with the aforementioned report from Gianluca Di Marzio having revealed that Fernandes looks all set for a move to Italy.
The Sion youth product is expected to join Serie A outfit Fiorentina on loan imminently, with some outlets suggesting that an option to buy could be included in the deal:
