Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has today discussed his future with the club, following a difficult debut campaign since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
20-year-old Dembele enjoyed a stellar season for Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion in 2016/17, cementing himself as one of world football’s most coveted young stars.
A return of 10 goals and a staggering 21 assists in his debut campaign left Europe’s top sides scrambling for the services of the wing wizard, with La Liga giants Barcelona having sought out the Frenchman to replace Neymar, following his move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Following months of speculation, Dembele finally completed his long-anticipated move to the Blaugrana in August for a then-club-record fee potentially rising to almost 150 million Euro.
However, the youngster’s time at the Camp Nou has not gone according to plan to this point, with a number of injuries having restricted Dembele to just 9 starts across all competitions.
The 9-time capped French international has showcased flashes of brilliance during his time on the pitch with the Blaugrana, including a stunning finish in the Champions League round of 16 versus Chelsea, and 5 assists during limited minutes in La Liga, but, overall, Dembele has looked some way short of the prodigious talent that emerged at Borussia Dortmund last season.
As a result of his struggles to this point, Dembele has already been linked with a departure from the Camp Nou, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea both touted as potential destinations.
However, speaking in an interview with Telefoot earlier today, Dembele, when questioned on his future with Barcelona, was quick to shoot down any and all rumours of a departure, insisting that he intends to remain with the club ‘for a long time’.
‘I’m not going to leave after just one season.’
‘I signed a five-year contract with Barcelona.
‘I’ll be here for a long time.’
