Dele Alli left out of Spurs squad again / Reguilon on bench vs Newcastle

Left out

Dele Alli has not travelled with the Spurs squad set to face Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alli has not featured in the league for Spurs since being substituted at half-time against Everton in the club’s season opener. Jose Mourinho is notorious for freezing out key figures at the clubs he coaches. Whilst at Manchester United, Paul Pogba was similarly shunned by the Portuguese tactician.

Former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas even suggested that Alli should therefore consider looking towards the exit door:

Giovani Lo Celso was selected alongside Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in the Spurs midfield on Sunday. Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele represent the midfield options on the bench. The latter of this pair has of course had his own issues with Mourinho.

Possible debut

Sergio Reguilon is another member of the Tottenham bench to face Newcastle. With the Spaniard in search of his Premier League debut, he will need to be patient.

Spurs swooped in to steal the 23-year-old’s signature ahead of Manchester United. The London-based club were willing to accept further clauses from Real Madrid to get the left-back.

Welsh international Ben Davies has long been the starting left-back for Tottenham, but his time could soon be coming to an end. It was reported that Reguilon’s buy-back clause has been set around £27.5 million, though, meaning a strong debut season could result in an early exit.
