Dejan Lovren took part in Liverpool training ahead of Salzburg clash

RB Salzburg vs Liverpool

Liverpool are set to take on Austrian outfit RB Salzburg on Tuesday evening, in their final Champions League group stage clash.

After failing to beat Serie A giants Napoli in their last CL tie, Liverpool really can’t afford to slip up vs Salzburg.

Granted, the Merseyside powerhouse will kick off in Austria sat top of Group E with 10 points amassed from their previous 5 CL ties.

However, 2nd placed Napoli are just one point adrift of the Reds, while Salzburg are three points behind the European champions.

Given Napoli’s final group game is against 4th placed and winless Genk, they are likely to win that tie. This means that unless Liverpool beat Salzburg, there is a good chance they won’t top Group E.

Also, as Salzburg have a superior goal difference than Liverpool, should they beat Jurgen Klopp’s men, there is a good chance that Liverpool will be knocked out of the qualification spots on goal difference, unless Genk beat or draw with Napoli.

Lovren trains ahead of Salzburg

So, as this is a pivotal tie for Liverpool, their fans will likely be glad to hear that Dejan Lovren trained on Monday ahead of the Salzburg clash.

With Joel Matip still sidelined, Lovren has been partnering Virgil van Dijk in the center of Liverpool’s defence.

However, the Croatian was taken off inside 40 minutes on Saturday, as Liverpool eased past AFC Bournemouth.

Despite this, Neil Jones of Goal would report that Lovren trained with Liverpool ahead of Salzburg.

Liverpool then posted pictures from the training session, and confirmed that Lovren was a part of it.

Georginio Wijnaldum, who was omitted from Liverpool’s matchday squad vs Bournemouth, can also been seen training in the pictures posted by the Reds.

The aforementioned duo were also named in Liverpool’s traveling squad set for Austria.
