Declan Rice would ‘love to play’ with Chelsea’s Mason Mount at club level again

Declan Rice

Recent comments from West Ham’s Declan Rice will no doubt fuel speculation that he wants to join Chelsea.

Rice’s time at West Ham

21-year-old Rice has spent his entire senior career on West Ham’s books.

In total, Rice has notched 100 appearances across all competitions for the Hammers’ senior side, in which he has scored two and assisted three.

The defensive-minded midfielder made his Premier League debut on the final day of the 2016/17 season, versus Burnley.

Rice would go on to establish himself as a key feature for the London outfit in the following campaign, after being handed his first league start in a 3-2 defeat versus Southampton.

And after a number of impressive showings over the course of the 2018/19 campaign, Rice is now viewed as one of the hottest young talents in England.

Rice’s superb displays have also seen him handed seven senior England appearances by Gareth Southgate, the first of which came in March of 2019.

Rice eyeing reunion with Mount

Unsurprisingly, given the fact that he is young, English, and looks a real prospect, Rice has reportedly attracted interest from some top Premier League sides.

All of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have previously been linked with the London-born Rice.

But, as mentioned above, Rice’s recent comments will no doubt fuel speculation that he wishes to join Chelsea.

Rice is known to still be close friends with Blues starlet Mason Mount, after the pair came through the Chelsea academy together. The former was released at age 14, though, before joining West Ham’s ranks.

However, when speaking to Copa90 recently, Rice stated that he would love to play with Mount at club level again:

“I’d love to play with him at club level again.

“One thing we’ve always said as kids we’d love to play with each other at club and international level but obviously you never know because of different paths and things like that.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
