Dean Smith on possibility of Martinez & Buendia featuring for Aston Villa vs Everton

Aston Villa vs Everton

Aston Villa are set to face off with Everton in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off.

The Villans have endured a fairly mixed start to the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Dean Smith’s side would lose 3-2 versus Watford on the opening weekend, before then picking up a win over Newcastle, followed by a League Cup downing of Barrow.

However, Aston Villa have since been held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Brentford, before then being smashed 3-0 by Chelsea this past weekend.

Everton, on the other hand, are yet to lose a league game under Rafa Benitez, drawing one and winning three of their first four this term.

But the Toffees will be without the services of key man Dominic Calvert-Lewin this weekend:

Dean Smith on Martinez & Buendia featuring vs Everton

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Dean Smith would speak to the media on Friday.

When conducting his pre-match press conference, the Villa boss was drawn on Emiliano Martinez and Emi Buendia, who missed out vs Chelsea after heading to Argentina (on the UK’s travel red list) during the international break.

However, Smith confirmed that the pair will be back with his squad on Saturday, with assessments set to be made regarding their availability closer to kick-off:

“We are expecting them to join us tomorrow morning and I will assess it then and decide whether they will be involved or not. They are in a good place physically.”
