Aston Villa boss Dean Smith confirms Jack Grealish has suffered a set back and is set to miss a couple of weeks

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith confirms Jack Grealish has suffered a set back and is set to miss a couple of weeks

Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Dean Smith’s side head to Anfield tomorrow afternoon and will be dreaming of repeating their result from when the sides last met back in October and they beat the defending champions 7-2.

Villa are currently in 9th place but are only 8 points off 4th place and still in the mix to finish in the European places if they can end their season on a good run of form.

However, they will be without their talisman Jack Grealish for the game, as Dean Smith confirmed in his pre-match press conference today.

Smith said:
Jack Grealish isn’t fit to play.”

“He’s had a setback and that will put him back a couple of weeks. Unlikely he will be back for a ‘few weeks.’ We know it’s not a long term injury, we probably pushed him back a little bit too quickly.

When asked if he felt he would be available for England this summer, “I think he’s proved himself already. He will be back before the end of the season. He’s played 20 odd games so everyone has an idea about where his form is and everything else.”

On other player news, Smith added: “Kourtney Hause is fit and will be in the squad. Wesley came off in a U23’s game but it was nothing, he’s trained every day since. He could potentially play before the end of the season.”

On their victory over Liverpool Smith said:

“It’s the best result in terms of the quality of the team and what Liverpool have done.”

“Virgil van Dijk was still in the team as well. It was an outstanding performance.”

“(Liverpool have) one of the top coaches in the world and they are a top team. It doesn’t take a lot for them to get going as we saw at Arsenal.”

“I’m extremely surprised by their form this season. Hopefully it (an upturn in results) will be the game after they play Aston Villa.”
