De Ligt stars for Ajax

Matthijs de Ligt is one of the brightest young talents currently in European football.

At just 19 years of age, he has already played over 100 games for Ajax’s first-team.

The young defender is also the club’s captain, and led them to their first Eredivisie title since 2014 earlier this month.

De Ligt has also impressed in Europe’s top competition, leading Ajax all the way to the semi-finals of this year’s Champions League, where they eventually lost out to Tottenham.

De Ligt is the epitome of the modern centre-back. He is excellent on the ball but is also a great leader and an imposing presence in the box.

So, it is no surprise that he is being linked with clubs such as FC Barcelona and Manchester United.

Amidst all the speculation about where de Ligt could end up, the player himself has recently spoken out about his future.

The Dutchman does mention both the Premier League and La Liga as potential destinations, but also claims that he still doesn’t know anything about his future:

“Where do I see myself? Well, the PL is a big competition, Spain also, but you have other competitions, it’s not (just) about those two. I still don’t know anything about where my future is, so I see how it goes.”
