David De Gea’s Man United deal announcement is premature

David De Gea & Man United

The Manchester Evening News set off alarm bells on Saturday.

That’s after they announced that Manchester United have agreed a new 5-year deal with David De Gea.

De Gea, a 27-year-old Spanish international, has been on the books at Old Trafford since 2011, when he joined the club from Atletico Madrid.

But according to Duncan Castles, the M.E.N’s De Gea contract claim was made too soon.

For the record, Duncan Castles is known for his excellent contacts inside Man United, with Jose Mourinho and with super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Mendes represents Spanish number one De Gea.

Castles posted the following update on social media:

Some bad news for the Manchester United supporters asking about David De Gea. Am told it is ‘not true’ that the goalkeeper has agreed a new contract with his club.

Spain 3 – Portugal 3

David De Gea conceded three goals as Spain drew 3-3 with Portugal at the World Cup on Friday night.

De Gea had little chance with Portugal’s opener, as Cristiano Ronaldo slotted away a fourth minute penalty.

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa scored a brilliant solo effort to pull La Roja level.

But just before the break Ronaldo scored his second when De Gea allowed his shot from the edge of the box slip through his hands and into the net.

Diego Costa drew Spain level for a second time at the start of the second period. And Spain took the lead with a brilliant half-volley from Nacho.

Minutes before the end of the game, Ronaldo completed his hat-trick with a stunning free-kick.
