How Davy Klaassen ‘sponsored’ Everton vs Liverpool

Davy Klaassen & Everton

Was Davy Klaassen the worst Premier League signing of the season?

Last summer the Dutch international joined Everton from Ajax. Klaassen signed a five year deal with the Toffees, while Everton paid £27 million for his services.

But Klaassen has barely featured this season at Goodison Park.

He was not even in the Everton matchday squad for Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool in the derby.

Klaassen has only played 15 matches in all competitions for Everton this season scoring once.

His last Premier League appearance was a six minute cameo against Brighton last month.

Klaassen ‘sponsored’ Everton vs Liverpool

In an interesting tidbit in the Times on Monday morning, it’s been revealed how Klaassen ‘sponsored’ Everton vs Liverpool.

In a sign that the midfielder still wants to prove himself on Merseyside, the broadsheet confirmed:

Allardyce praised Morgan Schneiderlin and said that he would like to start Davy Klaassen, too, whose family sponsored the match ball on Saturday.

So why isn’t Klaassen involved these days for Everton?

Big Sam spoke openly about the 25-year-old after Liverpool, saying:

Davy Klaassen is still an anomaly to me, as to will he or won’t he?

If I had the opportunity to play him I would, but I haven’t because I’ve got to win. So I don’t have the luxury of saying ‘go on, give it a go lad!’ because if we lose it’s me that gets the stick.

So if I haven’t got that luxury. If the opportunity comes along for anybody, be it through injury or suspension, hopefully he can show us what he’s got.
