Unai Emery Europa League

David Ornstein: The impact on Arsenal’s transfer budget if they lose to Chelsea

BBC journalist David Ornstein has offered an insight into how the Europa League final could impact Arsenal’s transfer budget this summer.

He has revealed that Champions League qualification could significantly increase Unai Emery’s current £40 million pre-sale budget.

The Gunners have two weeks to prepare for their trip to Baku, where they will be attempting to claim their first piece of European silverware since 1994.

Champions League qualification to boost Arsenal’s transfer budget

As it stands, Emery will have around £40 million to spend on improving his team in the transfer window this summer.

However, that would drastically change should the north London club manage to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Ornstein reports that playing in Europe’s elite competition next term could increase their budget up to around £100 million.

Having missed out on the top four, it is clear that new additions are needed at Arsenal this summer.

The BBC journalist claims that they are looking to sign a central defender, a box-to-box midfielder and a wide forward.
