David Moyes hopeful Michail Antonio will be back for West Ham vs Sheffield United

David Moyes hopeful Michail Antonio will be back for West Ham vs Sheffield United

West Ham vs Sheffield United

The upcoming round of Premier League action will draw to a close on Monday the 15th of February.

Amongst the final ties of the game-week, West Ham will play host to basement dwellers Sheffield United.

The Blades have had a disastrous campaign to date, which has seen them pick up just 11 points from 23 outings.

However, Chris Wilder’s side have found form recently, having managed a pair of wins from their last four in the Premier League.

As for West Ham, despite being knocked out of the FA Cup in midweek, they are flying high in the English top-flight, and have succumbed to defeat in just one of their last five.

Such form means the Hammers will head into the weekend sitting in 6th spot, just one point adrift of 4th placed Liverpool.

Moyes on Antonio, Ogbonna & Diop

Ahead of Monday’s tie, meanwhile, David Moyes held his latest press conference on Friday afternoon.

The Scotsman discussed a number of topics during the presser, including the fitness of Michail Antonio.

The forward missed the Londoners’ meeting with Manchester United in midweek, with his absence having been sorely felt.

Speaking ahead of Sheffield United, though, Moyes revealed his hope that Antonio could be back on Monday:

Michail is doing well, he’s had some time on the grass so hopefully he’ll be close for the weekend.

The West Ham boss also provided updates on the fitness of Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop:

It’s a big blow for us because he’s [Ogbonna] done really well. His leadership has been really important for us as well. We don’t have a timeframe as yet but we want to get him back quickly. My understanding is it doesn’t need surgery, but he’s been checked over and we’ll know more in the next few days.

As for Diop:

First and foremost, Issa is fine and he was fine immediately after the match too. My medical team took the right action the other night and we’re trying to do the right thing. We’re trying to carry out the protocols as best as we can.

It’s an opportunity for him to step up now with Angelo out too. We want him to be fit and well, we really like him and value him.
