David Moyes close to finalising a new three-year contract at West Ham

David Moyes close to finalising a new three-year contract at West Ham

West Ham impressing

West Ham United have most certainly been one of the surprise packages in the 2020/21 campaign.

The Hammers had an awful 2019/20 season, which saw them amass just 39 points and finish 16th in the Premier League.

This campaign, though, David Moyes has transformed what, on paper, still looks like a pretty average PL side, into a Europe-chasing team.

With one game of the season remaining the Londoners are sat 6th in the English top-flight.

And though a Champions League finish is now out of reach, securing Europa League football for 2021/22 would still be a huge achievement for West Ham, especially considering the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal could be set to miss out on a top-six finish.

David Moyes closing in on new West Ham deal

The man behind West Ham’s resurgence has of course been David Moyes.

After taking over in December of last year, the Scotsman was able to steady the ship and avoid relegation before overseeing what has been a pretty superb season from the Hammers.

Moyes’ current deal with the capital outfit will run out this summer as he only signed an initial 18-month contract when he took over last season.

Now, though, the former Manchester United boss looks set to be rewarded for his efforts with a new long-term deal.

According to the Telegraph, Moyes is set to set to sign a new three-year deal with West Ham.

And, when speaking about his future recently, Moyes voiced his opinion that now is a good moment for him to be given time and trust to take the club to the next level:

“I am not asking for time. I don’t think any manager can ever ask for time. But I think if you’re ever going to give a manager time it would be now, where somebody has come in and saved the club twice, had one year and got ourselves in a position where we are going to challenge for Europe.

“If you are ever going to trust and say ‘let’s go to the next level’, now you have got to give that trust over. You have got to give the manager the ability to try to take the club on to reach what you see as the next level.”
