Europa League Squad of the Season
Two days after Sevilla beat Liverpool FC in the Europa League final, UEFA announced the Europa League squad of the season featuring no less than seven Sevilla players.
The most bizarre pick has to be goalkeeper David De Gea, who only played two matches in the competition in which he failed to keep a clean sheet.
Manchester United’s number one was in goal for the two legs of the 3-1 aggregate defeat to Liverpool whilst Sergio Romero kept goal for the games against Midtjylland.
There were two Liverpool players included in the squad – Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho whilst Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld also made the cut.
Sevilla Champions again
La Liga club Sevilla incredibly won their third consecutive Europa League title after coming from behind to beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool 3-1 in Basel.
They are the most successful team in the competition’s history and earned themselves a place in next season’s Champions League group stage.
It was their 5th Europa League win in eleven years. An amazing feat.
