David Brooks suffers a hand injury before Crystal Palace & Newcastle linked with Ryan Fraser

David Brooks suffers a hand injury before Crystal Palace

It’s been a difficult twelve months for Bournemouth winger David Brooks.

Brooks has been out of action since last July with an ankle injury.

However, during the lockdown, the 22-year-old returned to training with the Bournemouth squad.

Defender Simon Francis recently commented that Brooks was “fully fit again” – sadly, that’s no longer entirely true.

Athletic reporter Peter Rutzler has confirmed that Brooks has suffered a hand injury in training. The precise details of what happened are unknown. But, as a result, the winger is now in a cast.

Bournemouth face Crystal Palace on Saturday in the Premier League.

Will Brooks play against the Eagles? Peter Rutzler says “he should be okay to play”, although there’s obviously now a doubt over the midfielder.

Newcastle linked with Ryan Fraser

The timing of Brooks’ latest injury came on the same day that Ryan Fraser confirmed he wouldn’t sign a contract extension with Bournemouth to stay at the club until the end of the season.

It’s unclear if manager Eddie Howe will pick Fraser against Crystal Palace and Wolves, before the Scotland international becomes a free agent on June 30.

It’s also unclear where Fraser will go next. However, the Times today reveal how much Fraser expects in wages from any new employer:

Ryan Fraser is understood to want more than £100,000 a week to sign as a free agent… His present deal is worth about £27,000 a week.

Newcastle United are one of four clubs in the race to sign Fraser, claim the Times.

Interestingly, the paper reports that neither Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham are interested in the 26-year-old winger. Instead, readers are told:

There has been interest from West Ham United, Newcastle United, Watford and Crystal Palace although much will depend on those club’s other targets.

In the case of West Ham and Watford it would depend on whether they retain their Premier League status.
