Liverpool are set to hand Danny Ward the chance to impress ahead of the new season according to the Mirror, with manager Jurgen Klopp finally deciding Loris Karius needs to be dropped.
Following the Champions League final, there have been huge calls for the keeper to lose his place in the starting line-up, and now it seems that could come to pass.
Klopp gave him a chance ahead of the new season, after the board decided the likes of Jan Oblak and Alisson Becker were too expensive, yet after more errors, it seems Karius will be dropped.
Ward has impressed during pre-season, and the 25-year-old has worked his way into Klopp’s plans, with Karius now out in the cold.
Karius could look to leave the club – which would provide the chance for Simon Mignolet to stay – something that no one expected come the end of the season.
If Karius does leave, it would leave plenty of the fans happy, with many claiming he’s simply not good enough or at the standard Liverpool need if they want to win top titles and trophies.
Klopp has defended Karius, and noted that the fans and media should leave him alone, saying: “You can stop it by not asking, promise? Until he has a few fantastic games you cannot change that. Our job is to support Loris.
“That’s our part of the deal. I saw this situation 500 times in my life: the ball hits his chest but what can you do?”
