Dani Alves: Neymar asked me to sign for PSG

Brazilian defender Dani Alves has revealed that it was Neymar who requested that he sign for French giants Paris Saint-Germain, and not the other way around.

Capital arrival

Alves signed for PSG on the 12th of June following the termination of his contract with Juventus, while international teammate Neymar arrived at the Parc des Princes this past Thursday.

It had been suggested by a number of outlets in Spain that Alves had been in the ear of Neymar throughout the saga linking him with Unai Emery’s side, with some sources even going as far as to insist that Alves had warned his fellow Brazilian against remaining at the Camp Nou.

Media speculation

However, Alves himself has revealed that this couldn’t be further from the truth, explaining that it was in fact Neymar who advised him to make the move to France.

Speaking to reporters following his side’s victory over Amiens, Alves explained:

‘I think people are mistaken. It is I who must thank Neymar for advising me to come here.’

The 34-year-old also went on to suggest that his close friend had made the decision to move to PSG long before the move was eventually announced.

‘It was he who asked me to come to PSG because he was ready to come, not the other way around. ‘

‘He knew I wanted to leave Juventus. Neymar is big now. He is no longer the young boy who has arrived in Barcelona. At that point, yes, I helped Neymar and advised him to come to Barca. But not here in Paris. I have done virtually nothing.’
